Source Engine 2

Could it be true? Will we ever see a source 2 engine?

Well it's been ten years since developer Valve launched its Source Engine. In that time, many games have been developed on it, such as Portal, Left 4 Dead, Titanfall and HL2. But there have been rumors and evidence that Valve has been working on its next engine. Yesterday, an update to the Dota 2 mapping and modding tools provide some amazing evidence of the engine's existence. There have also been rumors that indicate that Valve may have actually launched the engine already and that they have been allowing game developers to already work on games/mods.

It's also interesting to see that Valve has allowed users to switch between two map files: a ".vmap" file, and a "Source 1.0 Map (.vmf)" file. Also everything in the files that shares a name with something in the (Source 1 engine) is now labeled with a "2". For example, "engine.dll" is now "engine2.dll," and "vconsole.dll" is now "vconsole2.dll."

Also it's important to note that the co-creator of Counter-Strike said that the game Left 4 Dead 3 is in development and "looks great."

Supposedly, it was leaked that L4D3 is being developed with SE2 and is supposed to be SE2's launch title. Can't remember where I read that, but I did.

That's been all over the internet for about one year now. The most recent rumors are is that Valves launch title will be HL3.

More than a year, love. Maybe 5 years now.
Here's the most recent L4D3 Leak using Source 2

Personally, I think they could work on their trees.
